Computer Hardware Maintenance
Department
Head of Section: - Smt. K. N. Seema
B.E
This branch of study was started in
1992. The following labs and facilities have been provided in
the department.
-
Hardware workshop: It is a
spacious lab equipped with all equipments and accessories for
conducting computer hardware and Networking experiments. The
students learn about different hardware and their capacities.
Experiments are done on different peripherals, Motherboards of old and new
versions based on 8086 to PlV . The students
are also trained in assembling, servicing and
maintenance of computers.They also get
intriduced to networking/LAN.
-
Software labs:
60 computers have been provided for use by the students. They
practice on different programming languages like basic, c, c++,
java, ACAD etc., as per the curriculum.Students get Internet Browsing facility here.
Head of section: - Sri. M. Chandra
Kumar B.Tech.
Set up in 1980 as a department of
Power electronics it was later converted to General Electronics. It
has been equipped with the following labs:
1. Basic Electronics &
Circuit lab: - Equipped with testing and measuring instruments
like CRO, power supplies and other digital meters, the lab provides
the students the opportunity to work various electronic components
and electronic instruments.
2. Industrial Electronic lab:
This lab is equipped with demonstration trainer kits which are
displayed to understand the fundamentals about Radio, TV, VCR etc
students are allowed to utilize these facilities at their
convenience and time. They are also trained to assemble different
stages for Radio, TV and also in maintenance work, servicing etc.
3. Digital and Microprocessor
lab: - Logic trainer latest microprocessor kits have been
provided for conducting the various experiments in the curriculum.
Experiments are conducted on gates using LSI/VSLI/ICS and also with
assembling language programming on microprocessors like 8085,8086
etc, for both electronics students and computer hardware students.
4. Electrical lab: Though
the college does not have an Electrical Engineering Branch there is
a well-equipped Electrical lab for use by the Mechanical,
Electronics and Instrument Technology students. The Electrical
Machine lab has facilities suited for an Electrical Engineering
Department.
Head of Section: - Sri
Kochu Thomman Thomas B.Tech.
Established in 1986, the Civil
Engineering department is approved by AICTE.
The following labs are provided in the
department
1. Survey lab: - The lab is
provided with chain survey items, campus, plane table, theodolite
and tachometric surveys and leveling.
2.
Material Testing lab:
- Tension tests, compression test, share testing, bending test,
harden test, impact test and attrition test facilities have been
provided in this lab.
3.
Soil Mechanical Test:
- This lab is equipped to conduct specific gravity, voids ratio,
bulking sand, sieve analysis of the kine and course aggregates.
4. Concrete lab:- The lab is
equipped to conduct slump and compaction factor test, consistency
test, initial and final setting line mix design test, specific
gravity of cement etc.
5. Public Health lab: - Tests
like the water hardness test, PH value of water and PH value of
wastewater are conducted in this lab.
6.
Civil Engineering
Workshop: - This workshop is used to conduct various masonry
experiments and all types of plumbing works.
Survey camp for 10 days
are conducted as per the curriculum. The college also carries out
various tests for construction industries on nominal charges as per
government rules.
Head of Section: -
Sri R.Vijayan B.Tech.
The Mechanical Engineering
branch was started in 1980. The department has contributed to the
production industry and various governmental and non-governmental
organizations by training manpower. Various workshops and labs
function under the department.
The workshop section trains students
from all the departments in basic trades. The machine section is
used for training only mechanical students. CNC is provided for
final year mechanical students.
Mechanical Engineering laboratories: -
1. Hydraulics lab: - A well
equipped hydraulic lab conducts experiments on flow
measurements and hydraulic machines like francies turbine, Kaplan
turbine, centrifugal pump testing, reciprocation pump testing etc.
2. Service and Maintenance lab:
- Single cylinder and 4 cylinder engines have been provided to study
about engine, gear box, clutch and other power transmission
arrangements in automobiles. A compressor is also available to
study the working of compressors and its parts.
3. Heat Engine lab: - This is
the master lab for mechanical students. It is equipped with single
cylinder, diesel engine, twin cylinder two-stage air compressor,
merbet boiler and refrigeration cycle with window type air
conditioner.
Head of Section :-
Sri Shajil.A M.Tech.
The industry –institution
interaction has ensured that latest state of the art equipments have
been installed in the industrial lab, like fully equipped automotive
control value, computer controlled level and bottle filling limits.
A comprehensive collection of reference books, journals and a VCD
library help the students in their academic pursuits. The college
also has facilities to conduct short-term courses for advanced
instrument technicians and instrument mechanics.
The college’s geographic proximity to
a number of process and manufacturing industries helps the students
to get hands on training students are given the opportunity to
undergo short-term training programmes at Instrumentation Ltd, FC
.RI,
Malabar Cements etc.
Many of the students have found good
employment in the Middle East.
The Instrument Workshop has facilities
for testing and calibrating instruments. The workshop is provided
with a mini lathe, winding machines, grinding and drilling machines.
